I made this beautiful piece from a gorgeous but delicate silk crazy quilt top that my mother had owned for years. Some of the silk pieces had lost their integrity and were fraying. In those places I have replaced the silk either with other parts of the quilt top or silk that I had at home. I then lined these parts with embroidery to match the vintage embroidery. The armholes and neckline are made with vintage linen and the hem is surged and stitched under.

This piece would definitely require extreme care in washing. I would be concerned that colors would bleed with water and I’m not sure if they would hold up to dry cleaning. Best to keep this as a special piece to wear on occasion and spot clean if necessary. The backing fabric has age stains that are part of the garment at this point :-)
